Our mission

Crescent Petroleum’s hard-earned reputation for dependability and ethical conduct makes us efficient, effective and resilient.

Cleaner Energy

To creatively unlock the benefits of energy resources and make a transformative impact on the communities that we serve.

Our Vision

Being a trusted leader in sustainable energy, empowering communities, and driving responsible regional growth.

Sustainability is a Core Pillar

Sustainability has been a core pillar of our business since our establishment in 1971. As we focused on developing the Middle East’s natural gas resources, we have consistently championed ways of embracing cleaner-burning natural gas as a substitute for higher carbon-emitting fuels, striving to produce it more cleanly and more efficiently thanks continuous and cumulative improvements across our operations.

Today, natural gas makes up more than 80 % of our production, helping to deliver cleaner, more affordable electricity to millions in the KRI.

Since 2008, our operations have helped the region avoid over 58 million tonnes of CO2 emissions by replacing liquid fuels with natural gas. This impact will grow as we expand operations in the KRI and develop our new projects in Diyala and Basra Governorates in Federal Iraq.

Beginning in 2015 our sustainability reporting has provided a comprehensive overview of our sustainability performance for each year, along with qualitative updates up until the publication date. Transparency is a priority for us and we openly disclose how Crescent Petroleum addresses sustainability issues relevant to our stakeholders and operations across the UAE and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

We have four key sustainability pillars

Delivering on our Promise: Empowering Communities where we live and work through our actions.

Our commitment to the Environment: Championing Environmental Stewardship and reducing adverse impact

Our commitment to our Teams: Prioritizing the Health and Safety of Our Teams

Fostering a Culture of Employee Empowerment and Growth

Delivering On Our Promise to the Community

Our core mission drives us to help improve the quality of life in the areas where we operate, through our operations as well as through Social Performance activities to serve the community.

We firmly believe that empowering the communities in which we operate to thrive and grow is pivotal to the success of our business. For example we prioritise local talent wherever we can and favour local suppliers to generate economic opportunities for the communities across our operations.

Our operations helped create 10,000 direct jobs in the KRI and an additional 10,000 indirect jobs in our first decade of operations in the region.

Our Social Performance initiatives also reinforce that impact, helping improve the quality of life in and around our operations by promoting healthcare, education and arts, as well as promoting the social inclusion of people of determination.

We also invest in global initiatives and events to promote cleaner energy and social sustainability in our region.

Our Commitment to the Environment

At our core we believe that operating efficiently is not just good citizenship, but also good business.

We therefore embed sustainable practices into everything we do, continually measuring our progress to ensure progress, and focused on incremental operational enhancements, implementing innovative technologies and embracing best practices benchmarked against industry peers.

To reinforce that commitment, we have embarked on a number of industry-led initiatives that seek to collectively reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, such as carbon dioxide and methane, reducing carbon intensity, and yielding considerable cuts in overall industry GHG emissions.

Ensuring Our Teams’ Safety

Safety is a priority at Crescent Petroleum, and we strive to ensure that the hazards and risks inherent in our activities are mitigated.

From production operations to drilling to major capital project construction, as secure infrastructure, all risks are subject to systematic identification, assessment, and control.

Awareness of the hazards, risks, and controls in operation is communicated through inductions, regular training, written procedures, toolbox talks, awareness programs, and regular safety meetings. This approach is applied to all activities under our control.

The Company also has an established contractor management process that addresses contractor prequalification, selection, monitoring and performance review. While particular attention is paid to contractors engaged in the highest risk activities, we maintain strict standards and controls for all contractors we work with to ensure the highest standards of safety.

Empowering Our Teams

We strive to minimise our environmental impact by promoting process efficiency in all of our operations and support organisations and events that promote cleaner energy and sustainability in the wider region.

We invest in our employees to help them lead and grow as employees and as people. We aim to empower them with the skills to think strategically, make decisions quickly, and tackle challenges as they arise.

That has proven to be critical to delivering uninterrupted gas supply, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our teams tackled complex challenges in short order including lockdowns, curfews, and quarantines.

Their loyalty to the company was exhibited throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when employees worked extended shifts for long periods and worked collaboratively to ensure uninterrupted operations.

SDG Matrix

Our sustainability measures align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with disclosures of our relevant SDG contributions for each of our priority areas.
